As an undergraduate psychology student at Iowa State University, you will be joining about 600 majors and 200 minors who have chosen psychology as their area of interest. Psychology is the science of understanding why people think, feel, and behave the way they do. The undergraduate program at ISU is designed to help you understand the fundamentals of psychology, be able to think scientifically about human activity and mental processes, as well as gain knowledge and skills that would support your employment in a position related to psychology or graduate education.

Psychology is the science of behavior. Although there are many specialty areas in psychology, all psychologists have one thing in common - an interest in behavior. They want to understand how people and other organisms develop, learn, think, feel, act, and relate to each other. Psychology may be defined as the scientific study of behavior and mental processes and how an organism's physical state, mental state, and external environment affect them.
